Robert Fleischer

After an outstanding college career at Duke in the mid-1970s when he was named All-ACC, Fleischer played briefly in Europe before returning to Duke to receive a medical degree. Fleischer, who averaged a double-double during his collegiate career (14.6 points and 10.5 rebounds) is currently a urologist.

Career Highlights:
Fleischer was a smart team player at Duke in the mid-1970s. He began his career with the Blue Devils in 1972-73, and that season averaged 11.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. That year, Duke finished 12-14 (4-8 in conference) and lost in the first round of the ACC tournament to Virginia, 59-55 (Fleischer had 6 points and 8 rebounds in the game).

The following year, Fleischer was named GTE Academic All-America and won the Swett Memorial Trophy as the team MVP. He led Duke in scoring (15.7) and rebounding (12.4), but the Blue Devils did not play in the postseason. They had finished the regular season 10-16 (2-10) and again lost in the first round of the ACC tournament, this time to Maryland 85-66 (Bob had 10 points and 15 rebounds in the game).

Fleischer ended his college career with an excellent senior season, repeating as Duke MVP, Academic All-America, and adding second team All-ACC honors. He again led the team in scoring (17.2) and rebounding (10.5), but Duke did not improve much upon its previous two seasons. The Blue Devils finished 13-13 (2-10) and lost to Clemson, 78-76, in the first round of the ACC tournament; Fleischer had 13 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Fleischer was selected by the Buffalo Braves in the fourth round (70th overall) of the 1975 NBA Draft, but did not play in the NBA.
