John Grossman

Grossman played basketball, baseball, and football at Rutgers in the late 1920s and early 1930s. An All-America player in football, Grossman played professionally in the NFL and was named All-NFL as a rookie in 1932. He is a member of the Rutgers University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Career Highlights:
An All-America football player, Grossman also played three seasons of varsity basketball. As a sophomore in 1930, Grossman started at guard for the Scarlet Knights, who finished the season with a record of 10-4. During the season, Grossman performed well, including a 26-point game against Drexel; Rutgers won the match, 55-25. Unfortunately, the Knights didn't play as well as Grossman did. In Jack's senior year, Rutgers finished the season with a dismal 6-9 record.

In 1932, his senior season, Grossman played sparingly for the Rutgers varsity and the Knights ended the year 4-9. Nevertheless, Jack was the team's honorary captain early in the season and the New York Evening Post wrote, "...Grossman is the biggest man on the court and the most prominent member of the squad...far from being a polished, adroit basketball player, but he manages to get along on sheer aggressiveness and because of his advantage in height under the basket..."
