In March 1930, he stepped into the ring with one of the all-time greats, Tony Canzoneri, the former world featherweight champion and future lightweight and junior welterweight title-holder. Ritz was out-classed and less than one minute into the opening round, the bout was stopped by the referee and Canzoneri was awarded a technical knockout. Solly fought for a number of years after that, but did not fight another champion during his career.
