Maurice H. Furchgott

An All-America guard at Georgia Tech, Furchgott currently lives in Maryland and runs a merchandising company. In the mid-1940s, his brother Charlie Furchgott played at Georgia. In 1944, the two schools (and brothers) faced each other with Maurice and Tech defeating the Bulldogs, 44-0. Furchgott was drafted by the Chicago Bears of the NFL, but according to his son, decided to into manufacturing, which paid more, and "carried a lesser probability of losing more teeth." At the age of 81, Maurice is still a competitive tennis player.

Career Highlights:
In 1943, Georgia Tech finished the regular season with a record of 8-3-0 (3-0-0 in the SEC) and won the SEC Championship. In the Sugar Bowl, they defeated No. 15 Tulsa 20-18; Tech was ranked No. 13.

In 1944, Furchgott was named Collier's Eye All-America first team, and AP All-SEC. Tech repeated as SEC Champions with a record of 8-3 (4-0-0 in the SEC), were ranked No. 13, and faced Tulsa in the Orange Bowl. Tulsa avenged the previous year's Sugar Bowl loss by jumping out to a 20-0 lead and then holding on for a 26-12 victory.
