Donald Garber

Garber is currently the commissioner of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. In the last few years, MLS has been quite successful in developing young talent for the American National team, as evidenced by the 2002 World Cup when the U.S. advanced to the quarterfinals. On August 2, Garber said of the World Cup success, "Major League Soccer made a very loud statement. We've proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Major League Soccer in seven short years can, has, and will continue to produce world-class talent."

Career Highlights:
A business and journalism major at SUNY-Oneonta, Garber worked in public relations before joining the NFL (National Football League) front office in 1984. He began as the marketing manager of NFL Properties, then was promoted to Director of Marketing in 1988. Two years later, as Vice President of Business Development and Special Events for NFL Properties, Garber helped develop the NFL Experience (the theme park at the Super Bowl), as well as managing and producing the Super Bowl halftime show and other NFL-related entertainment events. In 1996, he was placed in charge of the newly-established NFL International, which ran the NFL Europe League. In 1999, Garber switched to MLS and became the league's commissioner.
