In March 1927, Friedman fought a young New England boxer named Ernie Schaaf and lost a six-round decision (six years later, Schaaf died after a fight with Primo Carnera -- his death caused many to call for a ban of boxing in New York). The following year, Friedman fought heavyweight contender (and Hall of Famer) Young Stribling, but was knocked out in the second-round. Friedman continued to fight until the early 1930s, but he lost more bouts than he won and never was considered a contender.
