Hirsch, Special Delivery

Hirsch, a professiona boxer in the 1910s, fought some of the best boxers of his era, including Johnny Dundee and Benny Leonard. He fought no-decisions against both men -- until 1920, decisions were banned by lawmakers with the intent that no decisions would eliminate corrupt judges and referees.

Career Highlights:
During his career in the 1910s and 1920s, Special Delivery Hirsch fought Benny Leonard, one of the greatest Jewish boxers in history, twice. The first fight, in November 1912, ended in a ten-round no-contest. The following December in Atlantic City, they fought to another no-decision, although the New York Times awarded the victory to Leonard.

In between the two fights with Leonard, Hirsch boxed against another Hall of Famer, future world junior lightweight and featherweight champion, Johnny Dundee. In January 1913, the two boxers fought to a ten-round no-decision in New York City. In March 1914, they fought again and the result was the same, a ten-round no-decision.
