Birth and Death Dates:
b. January 1, 1915

Career Highlights:
A welterweight, Jesserun fought future Colored Welterweight champion Cocoa Kid in November 1935 and won a ten-round decision. They had a rematch the following June and Andre again won a ten-round decision. They fought once more in April 1937 and Jesserun was knocked out in the 11th round. Andre's next fight was against Nat Bor, an Olympic bronze medalist in 1932 -- Jesserun won a ten-round decision.

In December 1937, Jesserun fought former Italian Welterweight champion, Vittorio Venturi. The bout, which took place at Madison Square Garden, ended in a ten-round draw. In March of the following year, he fought another Italian welterweight, Saverio Turiello. Turiello, who became Italian champion when Venturi abandoned the title and who later won the European title, defeated Jesserun in a ten-round decision.

Jesserun continued to fight some of the best welterweights around. He split decisions with former Canadian champion Frankie Genovese in 1938 and lost a ten-round decision with future NBA world welterweight champ Izzy Jannazzo in July 1939. In April 1940, Andre then fought Canadian welterweight champion Sammy Luftspring (who won the title from Genovese) and lost an eight-round decision. Luftspring was one of the top welterweights in the world, but his career ended in his next fight when he was accidently poked in the eye.

Early in 1941, Jesserun fought contender Steve Belloise twice; he won the first fight on a decision, but was knocked out in the second fight. In March, Andre fought Cocoa Kid for the fourth time in his career and lost a ten-round decision. Jesserun continued to fight in the early 1940s. According to www.boxrec.com, he won 47 bouts, lost 29, and drew five (record incomplete).
