Klang began his professional career in the late 1930s as a middleweight. Although his record is incomplete, he is known to have fought a number of bouts in the New York City area. According to www.boxrec.com, Klang defeated Al Schaefer in November 1939 (four-round decision), Al Magia in February 1940 (four-round decision), Victor Amato in March 1940 (first-round knockout), Tony Mango in September 1940 (six-round decision), and Ralph Tiovelli in December 1940 (six-round decision). Early in 1941, Klang fought Johnny Colan in New York Coliseum in the Bronx and lost the first bout of his career (after 23 fights) in an eight-round decision.
