Career Highlights:
Born in Brooklyn, Kaplan began his professional boxing career in the mid-1940s after World War II. He fought the majority of his early career in the New York area before going to England in November 1950. That month, he fought at Earl's Court (in the Kensington section of London) against future British and Commonwealth (British Empire) heavyweight champion, Johnny Williams. The fight lasted seven-rounds, and Kaplan lost on a technical knockout.

Two months later, Kaplan was back in the U.S. and fought Keene Simmons at Madison Square Garden, but was knocked out in the third-round. In July 1951, Kaplan again fought in the Garden, this time against Italian heavyweight champion Gino Buonivo. He lost an eight-round decision to the Italian. Kaplan's last recorded fight was against light-heavyweight Harry "Kid" Matthews in April 1952. The bout took place in San Francisco as Kaplan was knocked out in the first-round.
